Rugby is currently the fastest growing team sport in the US, with schools and universities across the country taking note of this growth. More than 35,000 collegiate athletes are registered nationwide, and the establishment of Major League Rugby (MLR) has created opportunities for the best players to pursue professional careers after graduation.
The NCAA has acknowledged women's rugby as an "emerging sport," leading to increased funding for aspiring female players. USA Rugby oversees the top-tier collegiate championships, and the Collegiate Rugby Championships 7s have recently signed a two-year agreement with CBS Sports, which will enhance the sport's visibility among US audiences.
Additionally, the USA is set to host the Men’s World Cup in 2031 and the Women’s World Cup in 2033, signaling a growing profile for rugby in the States. This has prompted universities and colleges to invest in their rugby programs and recruit players from around the world.
